FAQs

Why choose Homestay?

Homestay will give you a chance to learn a lot about the host culture by being part of a Canadian family. It will allow you to make new friends and provide you with the safety and comfort you need while away from your home.

Why would a family want to host me?

Families host for various reasons, but mostly because they have a sincere interest in learning about other cultures and helping people adapt to life in Canada. Many families also want to expose their own children to students from other countries and cultures.

What is a typical host family like?

Some host families may have their own children at home, while others are “empty nesters” (no children left at home) and have time and space to open their home to you.

When is the Academic School Year in Ontario?

The Elementary and High School Year runs from the beginning of September to the end of June, with the longest break during the last two weeks of December for Christmas Holiday.

Do I need to buy a uniform?

Some schools require uniforms while others don’t. Please check with our office once you apply for homestay in order to find out whether your school requires you to wear a uniform.

Can I get a SIM card in Canada?

Yes of course! The easiest way is if you have a valid credit card. Your host family will help you with this.

Can I open a Canadian bank account?

Yes. All banks have student bank accounts that you can open at no cost.

What clothes will I need?

If you are arriving in August or September, the weather is nice and warm so light clothes will be fine. Gradually the temperature will begin to get colder in the Fall and you will require sweaters and light coats. In winter, a heavy winter coat, hat, gloves and boots will be necessary, usually between December through March. You can easily purchase these items once you are in Canada.
